Response to Article

I was pleased read this article and to hear what others are doing all they can to help prevent global warming. It's a brilliant idea that the United Kingdom is funding and making donations to help save parts of the rain forest from deforestation. I believe if we all did a part and took some initiative actions we could help improve other areas that are being affected. I don't want to sound all pro planet and become an annoying activist that tries to persuade people to being Eco-friendly and start living as people did in the middle ages. No, I am simply stating that small choices could benefit us in the long run. And from this article it clearly states what we as human beings are starting to do, and what positive effects will be the outcome. This is a pretty hard subject not to be biased about because of the many facts the are portrayed as negative outcomes if we don't start changing our ways of living. I am doing the best I can to give straight facts from reliable sources speaking nothing but the truth and not over exaggerating just for perks and to scare the common person into overreactions. As I said before I liked this article because it didn't show what the effects were of what had already been done, it's showing what we are actually doing something good.

Papua New Guinea paper reports UK Poznan pledge on rainforest funds

The United Kingdom will give 100m pounds to rainforest nations to reduce the impact of deforestation on the world's climate.

Rainforest countries such as Papua New Guinea and Brazil are expected to be the main recipients of the funding,

The funding will help ensure that economic growth in rainforest countries is sustainable and allow nations to develop and improve their infrastructure, without negative impacts on their local forest environment.

17 per cent of all greenhouse gas emissions are due to forestry and land use change and that its a major cause of emissions in developing countries.

lack of action on deforestation would enable the worst impacts of climate change to occur.

"Without action on deforestation avoiding the worst impacts of climate change will be next to impossible. I'm impressed by the commitment demonstrated - it shows that we can make real progress on protecting the world's forests and secure ambitious goals in Copenhagen next year."UK High Commissioner

UK funding aid to rainforest nations including PNG had been going on for some time

The 100m pounds funding will come from the UK Environmental Transformation Fund, which is an 800m pound fund run jointly by the UK departments for International Development (DFID) and Energy and Climate Change (DECC). It was set up to support developing countries facing the challenges of climate change. The funding will be channelled through the multi-donor Climate Investment Funds.
